Trip
This photo is very effective as it is very bleak and looks very depressing which is often how SPAM stereotypically is seen. This makes the image very powerful as it shows the picture to be stereotypical.

This image is extremely powerful as it shows everyone dressed very similar within London. This makes London look like a very together place and a very nice place to live.

This photo is very effective as he has used a technique that enhance the colours and have colours that relate to each other which makes the image look extremely vibrant. The image is also very appealing to people as it is very simplistic which gives the image a lot of relativity to the people looking at the photo as they can relate to the image.

I think this is a very powerful image as it shows off someone in a real life experience. For example it is just someone lying on the floor of a room however because of the simplicity of the room and the authenticity of the photograph it creates extremely powerful imagery.
|
This image is extremely powerful as it shows off a SOHO worker in their environment and the photo is taken in a way that makes it seems as if the subjects of the image are completely oblivious to the photographer.
|
I really like this image as it shows people being very happy and it shows them in a natural environment. I also really like the way that the image is taken and edited into black and white as it gives the image a massive sense of authenticity.

Mind Map
First idea of exam.
Pinterest board.
3 ideas.
Broken up tube map.
I want to get a tube map and take different photos across the tube map and use the gradient tool to fade the images revealing that section of the tube map.
I took some photos that could potentially be part of the piece over the holidays and also made a draft of what it could look like.

Simon Patterson
I got my inspiration from Simon Patterson's the great bear because I saw the idea of breaking up the tube map and had my idea. This was because I felt that by taking something so iconic and recognisable and editing it as soon as it is seen and people notice that there is a difference to something that they know so well they will automatically be surprised by it.
My response
I have begun a response to the tube map idea by taking photos of different parts of London and using the gradient tool to fade the images of London under the tube map which creates the effect of a broken map but eventually it will also include the idea of broken society. I took me a number of different shoots to be able to come up with the piece in the end.
Broken objects
My other idea was to organise and photograph older objects with very vibrant and contrasting colours.
As a first idea i opened up an old polaroid camera and photographed the inside of it.

My inspiration for this shot was Todd Mclellan's 'things come apart' set of work. This was because I felt that breaking up parts of things especially older things and positioning them to resemble the original object and be very easily recognisable was very powerful because people will automatically be intrigued by the idea of seeing very recognisable objects that have been tampered with.
My response
In my response to Todd Mclellan's 'things come apart' piece of work I dismantled an old polaroid camera and then I did two responses to the broken camera. I took the first shoot as very tidy and in place and then I took another set of images where the camera pieces were scattered across the piece of paper.
WWW: I managed to replicate the original piece of work well and can see a clear link between Todd Mclellan's work and mine and I feel that given the object I broke was a camera it goes well with a theme of photography.
EBI: I feel as though I broke the camera apart a bit too much and it then made it a bit too messy and didn't retain the organised effect of the original work.

Sophie Calle - To see the sea.
I really like this work as I feel as though the way that the emotions of the people seeing the sea for the first time is extremely powerful and it really caught my attention. I like the idea of replicating this image by capturing someone seeing something extremely powerful for the first time and really effectively capturing the emotions of the people in the photos. This is something that I feel has been done extremely well in this shoot by Sophie Calle.
In this task I used milk bottles half of which had water in them and half of them didn't. I placed them on a white background and used torches and coloured plastic to use the water to reflect colour through the bottles and the water in the, to create different lighting effects. I also used some of the filters on my camera to enhance the images such as miniature effect and b&w to end up with much more powerful images.
London during lockdown - Broken city.
While London was on lockdown I went to oxford street just over a month since I had last been there to take photos to see the magnitude of change that had happened. The contrast between rammed streets even when the virus was going on in late March compared to the empty and bare streets that can be seen only a month later show the damage that the virus has caused. Images similar can be seen all across the world.

WWW: I feel as though I took some very powerful shots that show the damage that has been caused by COVID-19 well and shown the changes in society through pictures.
EBI: Some of the images are not the highest quality as I was having to take the photos very quickly and move on from where I was standing still.
